Patna: Jan Suraaj party founder Prashant Kishor today launched a strong offensive against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of using Bihar’s resources for personal campaigning ahead of the upcoming elections. Kishor made the remarks during a press conference in Muzaffarpur, where he was on a one-day visit.
Kishor’s comments come just days before PM Modi’s scheduled visit to Bihar on May 29. “Modi ji will spend money from a poor and backward state like Bihar for his own publicity,” Kishor stated. “He won’t announce any development projects for Bihar, but the poor people of Bihar will bear the cost of his security and rallies.”
Kishor questioned the timing of the Prime Minister’s visits, drawing a parallel to PM Modi’s trip to Madhubani last month for Panchayati Raj Day. “Why did he come to Bihar to celebrate Panchayati Raj Day this year, and not last year or the year before?” Kishor asked, implying the visits are strategically timed due to the upcoming elections in Bihar.
He further criticized the Prime Minister’s recent announcement of new trains from Bihar, arguing that such initiatives are meaningless without job creation. “As long as factories aren’t established in Bihar, our youth will be forced to travel to other states in these trains to find labor work,” Kishor asserted. He challenged the Prime Minister to address when factories would be set up in Bihar and when closed sugar mills would reopen.
Kishor also brought up the Prime Minister’s 2015 announcement of a Rs 1.25 lakh crore special package for Bihar during a rally in Ara. “It’s been 10 years since his announcement,” Kishor said, demanding an explanation from PM Modi on whether the promised funds were disbursed. He added, “If he did send the funds, he should explain why his and the JD(U)’s government in Bihar embezzled that money.”
Gandhi and Ambedkar Together to Defeat BJP: Prashant Kishor
In a separate but related statement, Prashant Kishor elaborated on the decision to feature images of Mahatma Gandhi and B.R. Ambedkar together on the Jan Suraaj flag. Kishor explained that Jan Suraaj’s fight against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is rooted in ideology.
“The BJP received approximately 40% of the votes in the country, while Hindus constitute 80% of the population,” Kishor noted. “This means that 40% of Hindus did not vote for the BJP.”
Kishor outlined Jan Suraaj’s strategy to unite the 40% of Hindus who voted against the BJP with the Muslim community. “The effort of Jan Suraaj is to bring together these 40% Hindus who voted against the BJP and the Muslim community, and form a political and social alliance to challenge the BJP,” he stated. He emphasized that the Hindus who do not vote for the BJP are followers of ideologies espoused by figures like Gandhi, Ambedkar, Ram Manohar Lohia, and Jaya Prakash Narayan.
