Bihar Official Suspended Over Sexual Harassment and Bribery Allegations

Muzaffarpur: A self-proclaimed tantrik has been accused of raping a seven-month pregnant woman under the guise of treatment in Muzaffarpur, Bihar — a case that has sparked outrage and renewed scrutiny of unregulated traditional healers in rural India.

The victim, identified as Kajal, had reportedly sought help from the accused after experiencing persistent dizziness during her pregnancy. Despite consulting multiple doctors, she had not found relief, and local villagers suggested visiting the tantrik, believed to possess spiritual healing powers.

According to the police statement, Kajal visited the tantrik’s home on June 29 with her husband. She was initially told that she would be cured through ritual practices. Once alone in the room, however, the man allegedly began to undress her, claiming it was part of the healing process. When she resisted, he allegedly raped her and threatened to kill her family if she spoke out.

The following day, on her husband’s insistence, she returned — and the assault was repeated. During the second incident, Kajal reportedly experienced abdominal pain and finally disclosed the events to her husband. The accused fled the scene soon after.

The ordeal was compounded by the lack of medical response. When the couple went to the government hospital for treatment, Kajal was allegedly left waiting for hours. Despite receiving an appointment slip at 12.30pm, she was not attended to until after 2.30pm, during which she lay on the floor in visible pain.

Police have recorded the victim’s statement and confirmed that raids are underway to locate the absconding accused.
