Muzaffarpur: With the holy month of Sawan approaching, preparations for the annual Shravani Mela at Baba Garib Nath temple are nearing completion. Thousands of Kanwariyas and devotees are expected to throng the temple to offer water to Lord Shiva, and the district administration is leaving no stone unturned to ensure their safety and convenience.

District Magistrate Subrat Kumar Sen and Senior Superintendent of Police Sushil Kumar conducted a detailed inspection from Fakuli Mor to Baba Mandir to review preparations along the Kanwaria path. Key instructions were issued regarding accommodation, sanitation, drinking water, electricity, medical aid, and traffic management.

Strict Monitoring and Accountability

“All officers must fulfill their responsibilities with seriousness and within the given timeline,” said DM Subrat Kumar Sen. He warned that negligence or carelessness in duty would not be tolerated and strict action would be taken against erring officials.

To monitor and expedite the work, the Additional Collector (Revenue) has been tasked with coordinating with all concerned departments and ensuring daily progress tracking. Emphasis has been laid on quality completion of work, including barricading, drain slab installation, cleanliness, and emergency response arrangements.

Facilities for Devotees

  • Accommodation: Tent cities are being established at RDS College, Teacher Education College, and Turkey by Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation Limited.
  • Toilets and Water: Given the summer heat, temporary toilets and hand pumps are being installed along the Kanwaria route and accommodation zones.
  • Medical Support: A total of 18 medical camps will be operational along the path, equipped with doctors, medicines, health workers, and ambulances.
  • Control Rooms: 80 control rooms will be set up across the route, staffed with officers and personnel for real-time support and coordination.
  • Traffic Management: 150 trolleys have been arranged by the District Transport Office to assist police in ensuring smooth and safe traffic movement.

Entertainment and Culture

To keep the devotional spirit alive, a cultural programme featuring Bhakti music and performances will be organised at RDS College in Baba Nagari. Artists will perform songs dedicated to Lord Bholenath, adding to the spiritual atmosphere of the mela.

City Beautification and Safety Measures

Instructions have also been issued for regular cleaning drives and repairing of broken drains in and around the temple area. The Electricity Department has been directed to replace old and damaged wires along the Kanwaria route, temple vicinity, and urban sectors to prevent electrical hazards.

Inauguration on July 13

Shravani Mela 2025 will be officially inaugurated on July 13 at Dwarika Nath High School. With just days to go, officials are racing against time to put the final touches on one of the region’s largest religious gatherings.

The administration aims to provide a seamless and spiritually fulfilling experience for all devotees visiting Muzaffarpur during the holy month.
