Prime Minister Lays Foundation Stone for New Civil Enclave at Darbhanga Airport

Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the new civil enclave at Darbhanga Airport via remote from Sigra Stadium in Varanasi. This is part of a larger project involving the development of seven airport infrastructure projects across India, with a total cost of over Rs 6,700 crore. The Darbhanga terminal and civil enclave are being constructed at a cost of Rs 912 crore. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar attended the event through video conferencing from Patna.
In his address, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the significance of airport development for regional growth. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed his gratitude for the project, noting that it will boost the Mithila region and North Bihar districts. The Bihar government has provided 76.65 acres of land for the new terminal and pledged further cooperation in the airport’s construction.
Since civil flights began in November 2020, Darbhanga Airport has seen more than 21.66 lakh passengers. The current terminal serves 1,500 passengers daily, a number expected to increase to 8,000. The terminal, presently 1,400 square meters, will expand to 51,800 square meters, with plans to increase the runway length from 9,000 feet to 12,000 feet.
Officials and dignitaries from both Patna and Darbhanga, including Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, were present at the event, with other key figures connected via video conferencing.
