Purnia Airport to Begin Operations By August 15, Announces Bihar Deputy CM

Purnia: Air travel from Purnia Airport is set to become a reality before India’s Independence Day this year, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has announced. Speaking at an event in Purnia on Thursday, he confirmed that construction of the airport’s civil enclave is progressing rapidly and will be completed soon, paving the way for flight operations.
“For years, opponents mocked the idea of air travel from Purnia, but the dream is now coming true,” Choudhary said. He emphasized Bihar’s rapid infrastructural transformation and reiterated the government’s commitment to improving connectivity. Plans are also in place to develop industries in Purnia and strengthen transport links with neighboring Jharkhand via the National Highway.
Choudhary made the announcement while inaugurating the Kamakhya Mahotsav State Fair at Maa Kamakhya Devi Temple in Nagar Block. The event was also attended by ministers Vijay Chaudhary and Leshi Singh. Addressing the gathering, the deputy chief minister outlined ambitious infrastructure projects, including the Bihariganj-Kursela rail network and the Rs. 6000 crore Patna-Purnia Expressway. He also mentioned plans for an aerial survey of Jamui and Munger for a reservoir project and highlighted the Kosi-Mechi link development initiative.
Beyond aviation, Choudhary spoke about agricultural development, stating that milk production centers will be set up in every block, and farmers will receive better support for selling vegetables. Minister Vijay Chaudhary echoed his optimism, praising Bihar’s progress under the leadership of the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister. Meanwhile, Minister Leshi Singh highlighted the cultural significance of the Maa Kamakhya temple, calling it a place of immense spiritual importance.
The construction of Purnia Airport’s civil enclave began last week, with work also underway on a boundary wall and connecting road. When presenting the state budget earlier this year, Choudhary had promised that air services would commence within three months. Now, with construction on track for completion in the coming months, Purnia is set to witness a new chapter in its connectivity and economic growth.
