Muzaffarpur: A violent confrontation broke out late Wednesday night in the hostel of Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology (MIT), one of Bihar’s leading engineering colleges, after a ragging-related dispute escalated into a physical clash among students.
According to eyewitnesses, students from first, second, and third-year batches engaged in a bloody altercation using rods, hockey sticks, and wooden planks. The college hostel’s gate was broken, windows were shattered, and a student sustained serious wrist injuries, requiring immediate blood transfusion. He was first taken to a private hospital and later shifted to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH).
Though police from the Brahmpura station arrived at the scene, the situation had quieted by then, with students hiding in rooms and bathrooms to evade further violence. No formal complaints have been registered, and the college administration has yet to file an FIR. However, MIT’s disciplinary committee has been tasked with investigating the incident.
Sources indicate the conflict erupted initially between first and second-year students in the evening and was temporarily defused by seniors. But tensions reignited around midnight, with what many students allege was a planned attack. Victims claimed that groups of students forcibly entered rooms and attacked occupants.
