Rahul Gandhi Alleges Bihar Is the Centre of Paper Leaks, Calls Caste Census Fake: Accuses Mohan Bhagwat of Denying the Constitution
Patna: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its chief Mohan Bhagwat at the Samvidhan Surakasha Samellan in Patna on Saturday. Addressing the gathering at Bapu Sabhagar, Gandhi accused Bhagwat of undermining the Indian Constitution.
“A few days ago, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat claimed that the Ganga did not originate from Gangotri and that India did not gain independence on August 15, 1947,” Gandhi said. “By making such statements, he is denying the Constitution and attempting to erase the ideologies of Dr. Ambedkar, Lord Buddha, and Mahatma Gandhi from Indian institutions.”
Gandhi reiterated his party’s commitment to conducting a caste-based census, stating it was essential for ensuring equitable participation across all communities. “No matter what happens, the Congress party will push for a caste census,” he said. “We will challenge the 50% reservation cap in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, breaking the barriers to ensure everyone gets their rightful share.”
Drawing a parallel between the Ganga and the Constitution, Gandhi remarked, “When I saw the Ganga today, it appeared as a river, but its water flows everywhere, even in the blood of those who drink it. Similarly, the essence of the Constitution should reach every household in India.”
He criticized the current economic disparity in the country, asking, “Where in the Constitution is it written that India’s wealth should concentrate in the hands of two or three individuals?” Gandhi also expressed concern over the lack of autonomy for BJP legislators. “When I speak to BJP MPs from backward communities, Dalits, and Adivasis, they admit they feel caged,” he added.
Earlier in the day, Gandhi arrived in Patna and proceeded to Hotel Maurya, where he met Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav during the RJD’s national executive meeting. Gandhi’s visit marked a significant moment as opposition parties align ahead of the upcoming Bihar assembly elections.
