Rain Expected in Bihar on January 12 Amid Cold Wave: Mercury to Drop by 3°C

Patna: Bihar continues to reel under a cold wave, with chilly westerly winds blowing at speeds of 8-10 km/h over the past several days. The Meteorological Department has forecast a further dip in temperature, with the mercury expected to fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the next two to three days.

An alert for dense fog has been issued across 24 districts until January 11, while cold westerly winds from the mountains intensify the chill across the state. The cold snap is expected to persist, with relief likely only after January 10.

The minimum temperature has already dropped significantly, with Samastipur recording the season’s lowest at 5.1°C on Thursday. Banka recorded the coldest temperature so far this winter at 4.4°C on January 2. In Patna, the minimum temperature has hovered below 10°C, with the coldest day being January 3, when the mercury touched 9.1°C.

According to the Patna Meteorological Centre, no significant rise in temperature is expected in the next two days. However, a slight increase is anticipated thereafter. On Sunday, parts of southwestern Bihar may witness cloudy skies with light rain, providing temporary respite from the biting cold.

Rain is also forecast in six districts, including Buxar and Bhojpur, on January 12. For now, the cold wave continues to grip the state, with residents bracing for more icy days ahead.
