Patna: Heavy rain lashed Patna on Thursday morning, marking the beginning of an unsettled weather pattern across much of Bihar. Since then, intermittent showers and hail have continued in the capital, with hailstones falling for nearly 30 minutes in some areas. Nalanda district also reported similar conditions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Siwan and Saran districts, warning of potentially severe weather. Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been sounded for 25 districts across the state, signalling the likelihood of moderate rainfall and thunderstorms.

Bihar Faces Unstable Weather as Red Alert Issued for Several Districts

According to the Patna Meteorological Centre, several districts in Bihar may experience rain accompanied by strong winds blowing at speeds of 40 to 50 km/h until May 3. The department attributes this shift in weather to the influx of moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal, combined with local atmospheric conditions.

Meteorologists are also keeping an eye on a new Western Disturbance expected to reach the western Himalayan region on May 2. Its potential impact on Bihar will depend on its strength and movement.

The recent weather changes have led to a noticeable drop in daytime temperatures across the state. The maximum temperature has fallen by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius in recent days, offering some relief from the heatwave conditions earlier this month, when temperatures had soared above 40°C in several areas.

Looking ahead, the IMD forecasts a gradual rise in daytime temperatures—by 2 to 5 degrees Celsius—over the next three days. However, no significant change is expected in minimum temperatures during this period.
