Rain, Thunderstorm Alert in Bihar: Yellow and Orange Warnings Issued

Patna: Weather conditions across Bihar, including the capital Patna, continue to remain unstable with forecasts of rain, thunder and lightning in several parts of the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Friday, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and wind speeds reaching up to 40–50 km/h in several districts.
Districts Under Alert
According to IMD, the yellow alert covers East Champaran, West Champaran, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Shivhar, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Begusarai, and Nawada. These regions may experience strong winds, thunder, and lightning.
Meanwhile, an orange alert has been issued for parts of eastern Bihar, signalling a higher likelihood of intense weather activity in those regions. Despite the warnings, the IMD has clarified that there will be no major fluctuation in temperatures across the state.
Farmers in Siwan Hit Hard
In Siwan district, a brief spell of heavy rain on Thursday afternoon brought respite from the heat but also triggered waterlogging and muddy conditions in many areas. While city dwellers welcomed the change in weather, local farmers are grappling with concerns over crop damage.
Many farmers in the region had either standing crops in the field or had harvested wheat stored in the barn for threshing. The untimely rain has raised fears of wheat spoilage, prompting widespread anxiety among the farming community.
“We irrigated the fields using pumping sets due to insufficient rain earlier. Now, when the crop is ready for harvesting, this rain is ruining it,” a distressed farmer said. Others echoed similar concerns, fearing that their hard work may go to waste.
While the rainfall may support the cultivation of mango, litchi, and vegetables, it is proving harmful for ripened crops like wheat.
Outlook
With alerts in place and no relief in sight from intermittent rain, authorities have advised residents and especially farmers to stay vigilant. The IMD continues to monitor the evolving weather pattern and will issue updates as needed.
