Rajgir Ropeway Closed for Maintenance Till July 13; Tourists Advised to Use Walking Route

Rajgir: The popular Rajgir ropeway service, a major attraction for visitors heading to Vishwashanti Stupa, will remain completely shut from July 10 to 13 due to essential maintenance and safety checks.
The decision was confirmed by Ropeway Manager Deepak Kumar, who stated that the temporary suspension is necessary to ensure visitor safety. During the closure, critical tasks including rope replacement and a non-destructive test (NDT) will be conducted to evaluate the system’s integrity.
Maintenance Work Extended Due to Technical Reasons
Originally, the maintenance work began on July 5 and was scheduled to be completed by July 10. However, the timeline has been extended due to technical investigations taking longer than expected, prompting a three-day operational halt. The delay comes at a time when the region is experiencing increased tourist footfall during the season.
Ropeway Usage and Impact on Tourism
The Rajgir ropeway, recently modernized with 8-seater cabins, has become a major tourist magnet, transporting over 1,500 people daily. It offers a scenic aerial route to Vishwashanti Stupa, a prominent Buddhist pilgrimage site that draws millions of visitors annually from India and abroad.
Tourists will now have to rely on the traditional walking path, which, while more time-consuming, allows for a closer experience of Rajgir’s natural beauty and hilly terrain.
Service to Resume on July 14
The ropeway management has assured that operations will resume on schedule from July 14, barring any further technical delays. Tourists are advised to stay updated through official announcements and cooperate with the administration.
“This step is crucial for the long-term safety and reliability of the ropeway. We request all visitors to bear with this temporary inconvenience and extend their support,” said Deepak Kumar.
