Religious Book Tampered at Mahabodhi Temple; Two Arrested, Security Tightened

Bodh Gaya: A religious book was allegedly tampered with at the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya on Tuesday. The incident was caught on CCTV, prompting swift action from district authorities.

Upon reviewing the footage, officials identified two suspects involved in the act. Following instructions from senior officers, both were arrested and handed over to the Bodh Gaya police station for questioning. The accused, residents of Chandauli and Bhadohi in Uttar Pradesh, are reportedly linked to certain movements in Bodh Gaya. However, their names have not yet been disclosed by the police.

Gaya District Magistrate Dr. Thiyagarajan S.M. confirmed the incident, stating, “An attempt was made to damage a religious book within the Mahabodhi temple premises. We have arrested two individuals from Uttar Pradesh in connection with the case and have intensified security in and around the temple.”

Senior Superintendent of Police Anand Kumar, along with Dr. Thiyagarajan and officers from the Bihar Special Armed Police Force-03, conducted a thorough review of the temple’s security arrangements. They inspected CCTV coverage, security personnel deployment, and emergency response protocols. Officials have decided to increase the number of CCTV cameras and ensure that security personnel remain on high alert.
