Restart of Riga Sugar Mill and New Developments Announced During Pragati Yatra
Patna: Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary described the reopening of Riga Sugar Mill as a historic milestone achieved during the ongoing Pragati Yatra. The mill’s re-operation will generate direct employment for 400 individuals and indirect opportunities for around 2,000 people. He also announced that if the mill operates successfully for one crushing season, the government will settle the outstanding dues of Rs. 51.30 crore to sugarcane farmers.
During a visit to Shivhar and Sitamarhi districts with the Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary stated that the restart of the sugar mill will benefit approximately 50,000 sugarcane farmers from Sitamarhi, Shivhar, Muzaffarpur, East Champaran, and Madhubani districts, significantly improving their financial conditions.
He further announced that Sitamarhi Medical College will commence operations in 2025, providing advanced medical services to thousands in the Seemanchal region. Additionally, a budget hotel will be built at the Hotel Janaki Bihar campus in Sitamarhi at a cost of Rs. 29.87 crore. The 54-room facility, including suites, a swimming pool, centralized air-conditioning, and ample parking, is expected to be completed within 24 months.
Samrat Choudhary also revealed plans to construct 40 units of judges’ quarters at the Civil Court in Sitamarhi at a cost of Rs. 28.61 crore. These developments, he said, mark significant progress in the state’s infrastructure and economic growth efforts.
