Results of Major Bihar Exams Pending, Over 10 Lakh Candidates in Limbo
Patna: The results of five major examinations in Bihar are currently pending, affecting the future of around 10 lakh candidates. In addition, more than 35 lakh applicants are awaiting the exams for two major vacancies, including the Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC) Inter-level exam, for which 25 lakh candidates have applied, and the Civil Court recruitment, with 10 lakh applicants.
The results of two crucial BPSC examinations have been delayed due to reservation-related legal challenges. Despite the scheduled timelines, the results have not yet been released, leaving 5.5 lakh candidates in uncertainty.
Exam 1: Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-3)
The notification for the third phase of the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-3) was issued on February 7, 2024, but even after eight months, the process remains incomplete. Although the exam was conducted in July, the results have not been released yet. Out of 5.81 lakh applicants, only 4 lakh candidates appeared for the exam.
The primary reason for the delay is the lack of roster clearance from all districts, which ensures the correct allocation of reserved posts across various categories. Additionally, a paper leak in the earlier exam led to a re-examination in July, further delaying the process.
Exam 2: Head Teacher and Principal Recruitment
On March 1, 2024, BPSC announced 40,227 vacancies for Head Teachers and 6,061 positions for Principals. However, despite 1.22 lakh candidates eagerly awaiting the results, the process remains incomplete. The results are now expected in October 2024.
The delay in the Head Teacher and Principal recruitment is attributed to two factors. First, a legal challenge to Bihar’s decision to increase the reservation quota from 50% to 65%, which is currently under Supreme Court review. Second, a ruling by the Supreme Court on the exclusion of the Tanti-Tatva caste from the SC quota further complicated the recruitment process.
Pending Results from Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB)
Two exams conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB)—the Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) and D.El.Ed (2022-24)—are also pending, with no updates on their results.
Exam 3: Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test (STET)
The STET results, which qualify candidates to become teachers in the state, have been pending for nine months. Despite over 4 lakh candidates having appeared for the exam held between May and June 2024, the results are yet to be released. The delay could prevent these candidates from applying for upcoming vacancies.
Exam 4: D.El.Ed (2022-24) Exam
The final result for the D.El.Ed (2022-24) session has also not been released, affecting 70,000 trainees. Without the results, final-year trainees will miss out on opportunities for contractual teacher recruitment in various institutions, including Kendriya Vidyalayas.
Long-Pending BSSC Urdu Translator Result
The recruitment process for the Assistant Urdu Translator position, which began in 2019, has dragged on for five years. Despite conducting the preliminary exam in 2021 and subsequent counseling sessions in 2022, the results are still pending. Recent developments suggest that the final merit list might be released between November and December 2024.
BSSC Inter-Level Examination Delay
The BSSC released a vacancy for 12,199 posts on September 20, 2023, but even after a year, the exam date has not been announced. Over 25 lakh candidates have applied for this vacancy, but uncertainty looms as no fixed date has been provided for the examination.
Civil Court Recruitment Stalled for Two Years
The recruitment process for 7,692 posts in Bihar’s Civil Courts, including Clerk and Peon positions, has been delayed for two years. While exams for Court Reader and Stenographer posts have been conducted, the exams for Clerk and Peon are still pending, leaving over 10 lakh candidates in distress.
Candidates Awaiting Action
The prolonged delays in exam results and recruitment processes have left candidates anxious and frustrated. Student leader Dilip Kumar stated that if the government does not release the exam dates soon, candidates are preparing to stage protests, as the lack of timely vacancies and exams is severely affecting their employment prospects.
The Bihar government and concerned authorities have yet to provide concrete timelines, further deepening the uncertainty for millions of candidates.
