Patna: A 21‑year‑old student was fatally injured after being hurled from the moving Kamakhya–Gaya Express during an apparent robbery attempt on Tuesday morning, raising serious questions about police response and passenger safety on India’s railways.
The victim, identified as Kajal Kumari of Khagaria district, was travelling with her family from Kamakhya to Bhagalpur when two assailants allegedly tried to snatch her bag as the train crawled near Sabour station, roughly one kilometre from Bhagalpur. When she resisted, one of the attackers is accused of shoving her from the slow‑moving train onto the platform.
Eyewitnesses say her family immediately pulled the emergency chain and disembarked to assist her. Although two railway constables arrived at the scene, they reportedly failed to arrange medical aid. Kajal was taken by auto rickshaw to a local hospital in Mayaganj, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Her brother, Jai Kumar, has openly accused the police of negligence, stressing that a timely ambulance could have saved her life. “We begged for help, but no one arranged transport or first aid,” he said.
The incident marks the third reported case in three months of passengers being thrown from moving trains during robberies on the Kamakhya Express route. In response to public outcry, Railway ADG Bachchu Singh Meena has ordered the Jamalpur Railway Superintendent of Police to conduct an immediate on‑scene investigation and file a comprehensive report.
