Saharsa Airport Expansion Begins: Small Aircraft to Take Off Soon

Saharsa: In a major development for the Kosi region, the expansion of Saharsa Airport, spread over 62 acres, has officially commenced. This project, initiated by the central and state governments, aims to facilitate the operation of small aircraft, providing a much-needed boost to connectivity in the region.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has started a feasibility study to assess the expansion of the airport, including runway development and aircraft testing. This was announced by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary while presenting the Bihar Budget 2025.
Aircraft Testing to Begin Soon: MLA Dr. Alok Ranjan
Speaking on the development, Sadar MLA and former Bihar minister Dr. Alok Ranjan highlighted that aircraft testing will soon take place at the airport. Quoting Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary, he stated that the Bihar Budget 2025 is focused on education, healthcare, and infrastructure development, ensuring holistic progress for the state.
Dr. Ranjan noted that the budget allocates ₹3.16 lakh crore for various sectors, including road construction, irrigation, urban and rural development, tourism, and sports. He added that Saharsa has received a key development boost with the airport expansion.
Key Announcements in Bihar Budget 2025
During his budget speech, Finance Minister Samrat Choudhary announced that small aircraft will soon take off from Saharsa, significantly improving air connectivity in the region.
Additionally, the budget emphasizes women’s empowerment and healthcare, with provisions for:
- Pink Bus services for women’s safe travel.
- A new cancer hospital, aimed at improving cancer treatment and care.
Special Focus on Scheduled Castes and Tribes
Dr. Alok Ranjan also pointed out that the budget has given special attention to the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Tribes, with a ₹1,735 crore allocation for their development.
Furthermore, private investment has been encouraged to boost Bihar’s economy, with a focus on employment generation and industrial growth.
Praising the NDA government, Dr. Ranjan said that the budget lays the foundation for Bihar’s rapid progress, ensuring economic and social upliftment for all sections of society.
