Patna: Patna is gearing up for a major infrastructure milestone as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the newly constructed terminal building at Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport during his two-day visit to Bihar beginning May 29. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary visited the Patna and Vikramganj airports on Monday to review preparations for the high-profile event.

Choudhary said the new terminal, built at a cost of Rs 1,200 crore, spans 65,150 square metres—making it significantly larger than the existing facility. Once operational, the airport will be able to accommodate up to 75 flights, compared to the current 34, and handle one crore passengers annually, up from 25 lakh.

“The Prime Minister’s visit is historic for Bihar. From Patna and Vikramganj, he will dedicate development projects worth Rs 50,000 crore to the people,” said Choudhary. He added that key projects include schemes related to airport expansion, road upgrades, electricity supply and railway modernisation.

Among the notable announcements is the foundation stone-laying for a new civil enclave at Bihta Airport, which will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 542.79 crore. This facility is expected to ease pressure on Patna Airport and improve air connectivity in the region.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the second phase of the Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project in Aurangabad district, which will generate 1,500 MW of electricity and become NTPC’s second-largest power plant nationwide.

Other infrastructure projects on the itinerary include the Patna–Gaya–Dobhi four-lane highway (Rs 5,519 crore), upgradation of NH-27 in Gopalganj (Rs 249 crore), and automatic railway signalling and additional rail lines between Sasaram and Son Nagar.

Choudhary directed officials to ensure proper arrangements for security, cleanliness, drinking water, ambulance availability, and fire safety during the Prime Minister’s visit. He also highlighted that projects like the new terminal will not only transform public infrastructure but also accelerate Bihar’s long-term economic growth.
