Seamless Ride: Gandhi Setu to Directly Link with JP Ganga Path, Freeing North Bihar Bypass

A new approach road connecting JP Ganga Path directly to both old and new Gandhi Setu bridges is set to reduce congestion and make travel to North Bihar faster and hassle-free.

Officials Clarify Concerns Over Patna’s Newly Inaugurated Stretch of JP Ganga Path

Patna: In a move expected to significantly decongest Patna’s traffic and streamline routes to North Bihar, authorities are preparing to directly link JP Ganga Path to both the old and new Gandhi Setu bridges. The plan aims to bypass traffic-heavy zones such as Zero Mile and Biscomaun Golambar, long known for vehicular bottlenecks.

Under this proposal, a new approach road will be constructed near Gaighat, allowing vehicles travelling on JP Ganga Path to seamlessly ascend either of the Gandhi Setu bridges. This would eliminate the need for detours through the city’s most congested stretches, thus reducing both travel time and traffic pressure.

The Bihar State Road Development Corporation (BSRDC) has already initiated groundwork for the project. Land between the southern edge of JP Ganga Path and the Gandhi Setu bridges at Gaighat will be used for the construction of this critical connector. A consultant is being appointed to conduct feasibility assessments, and tenders are expected to be issued soon.

This development follows a directive from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who, during a recent inspection, emphasised the urgency of directly integrating the elevated riverfront corridor with Gandhi Setu to enhance regional connectivity.

In parallel, planning continues on a 35.65-kilometre-long four-lane road connecting Digha to Koilwar, intended to further bolster traffic flow between the capital and surrounding regions. This route includes a 17-km elevated road from Digha to Sherpur and an 18.5-km embankment road stretching to Koilwar. Authorities are considering both PPP and loan-based funding models, though administrative approval is still pending.
