Munger: The Bihar State Sports Authority has started selection trials for young athletes under the Eklavya State Residential Sports Training Centre. The first round of trials was held on Saturday at the Sheetalpur ground in Munger, where 152 players, including 22 girls, registered to take part in the football selection trial.
The trials are part of the Chief Minister Sports Development Scheme, which is aimed at selecting talented boys and girls aged 12 to 14 years. These selected players will receive free training, education, food, and accommodation at the Eklavya centres. The goal is to help young athletes grow into national and international-level sportspersons.
Ravindran Shankar, Director General and CEO of the Bihar State Sports Authority, said that players are being judged based on their fitness and sports skills. Those who qualify will get proper training from skilled coaches at residential centres set up across the state for different sports.
The Bihar government is organising similar selection trials in various districts across 18 different sports disciplines. Officials said the state is committed to promoting sports and providing young talent with the facilities and support they need to succeed.
