Seminar on Climate-Resilient Fruit Production Concludes at Bihar Agricultural University

Sabour: A two-day seminar focused on improving fruit production in the face of climate change concluded at Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour. Sponsored by Bameti, Patna, the seminar saw full participation from 106 extension workers and progressive farmers across 38 districts of Bihar. Key university officials and scientists, including Dr. R.K. Sohane, Dr. Mijanul Haque, Dr. Fiza Ahmed, Dr. R.N. Singh, Dr. Abhay Mankar, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, and horticulture specialists Dr. Kumari Karuna and Dr. Pawan Kumar, were present at the event.
During the seminar, Dr. R.K. Sohane emphasized the importance of adapting orchard management practices to the changing climate and encouraged farmers to plant more fruit trees as a means to increase income and mitigate climate impacts. Dr. Fiza Ahmed also highlighted the significance of establishing new orchards to address the challenges posed by climate change.
The seminar provided an opportunity for farmers and extension workers to share their experiences, with a notable contribution from a farmer in Lakhisarai district who discussed the benefits of natural farming. The technical sessions featured expert lectures on topics such as global warming, climate change’s impact on horticulture, the role of rootstocks, and climate-resilient crops like coconut and palm.
The event concluded with the distribution of certificates to all participants, followed by a vote of thanks from Dr. Abhay Mankar. The seminar underscored the critical need for climate-adaptive strategies in fruit production and equipped attendees with valuable insights for future agricultural practices.
