Sepak Takraw World Cup Kicks Off in Bihar with 150 Matches Between 20 Nations

Patna : The Sepak Takraw World Cup, making its debut in Bihar, commenced on Thursday at the Patliputra Sports Complex in Patna, promising six days of high-octane action. Twenty nations, including powerhouses like Thailand and Malaysia, will compete in 150 matches across various categories until March 25.

The opening match, scheduled for 8 am, will see Thailand, widely regarded as one of the strongest teams, face off against Singapore. Later in the day, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will officially inaugurate the event at 5:30 pm, followed by a much-anticipated clash between New Zealand and India. A total of 30 matches, covering both men’s and women’s categories, are lined up for the opening day.

Local Talent on Display
All eyes will be on Bobby Kumar from Patna, the only player from Bihar representing India in the tournament. Bobby previously showcased his skills at the 36th King’s Cup World Sepak Takraw Championship in Thailand and is expected to play a crucial role for the Indian side.

Global Participation and Intense Competition

The tournament has drawn over 300 players and coaches from around the world. Participating nations include Japan, Myanmar, Iran, Vietnam, Brazil, Poland, France, Nepal, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, the United States, Singapore, Switzerland, Indonesia, Italy, and Chinese Taipei.

Diverse Events and Packed Schedule

The World Cup will feature seven events across regu, doubles, and quad categories, with three men’s, three women’s, and one mixed event. As hosts, India’s men’s and women’s teams will compete in all events. The final match is scheduled for 25 March, culminating a week of fierce competition and athleticism.
