Shram Samvad magazine launched to spotlight worker welfare and labour reforms

Patna : The Bihar government has launched a new quarterly magazine titled Shram Samvad, aimed at promoting labour welfare schemes, skill development, and policy dialogue for workers across the state.

The magazine’s inaugural issue was officially released in Patna by the state’s labour resources minister, Santosh Kumar Singh. Senior officials from the department, including secretary Deepak Anand, special secretaries Rajiv Ranjan and Alok Kumar, and labour commissioner Rajesh Bharti, were present at the launch event.

According to the department, Shram Samvad will serve as a comprehensive platform for disseminating information on labour laws, reforms, and welfare schemes. Minister Santosh Kumar, who also serves as the magazine’s editor, said the publication aims to facilitate informed discussions on labour policy and development.

“This initiative will not only inform but also engage stakeholders—workers, policymakers, and industries—through meaningful dialogue,” he said.

The first edition covers a wide array of topics, including updates to state labour laws, the transformation of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into centres of excellence, and social security schemes targeting unorganised workers. It also delves into the role of skill development in empowering women and offers career guidance for young jobseekers.

In addition, the issue features articles on the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana, a historical overview of Indian labour laws including the Industrial Disputes Act of 1947, and an analysis of global migration trends, from indentured labour to the modern tech workforce.
