State Handloom Expo 2025 at Gandhi Maidan, Patna Showcases Bihar’s Weaving Heritage

Patna: The State Handloom Expo 2025 has opened its doors at Gandhi Maidan, Patna, aiming to support Bihar’s weavers by providing a dedicated marketplace for their handcrafted products. The event, inaugurated by Bandana Preyasi, Secretary, Department of Industries, brings together artisans, customers, and government officials to celebrate Bihar’s rich textile tradition.
The 12-day expo, running from February 13 to 25, features 90 stalls displaying a wide array of handloom, handicraft, and khadi products. 52 stalls have been reserved exclusively for Bihar’s weavers, while artisans from Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir, and other states have been allotted 22 stalls. An additional 16 stalls are dedicated to handicrafts and khadi items.
A Tapestry of Textiles on Display
The expo offers a glimpse into the diverse handloom traditions of India, featuring Pashmina Kashmiri shawls from Jammu & Kashmir, Kantha stitch, Jamdani sarees, and Baluchari cotton sarees from West Bengal, as well as bedsheets, batik prints, and jute silk sarees from Uttar Pradesh. Bihar’s rich textile heritage is also on display, with Tussar silk sarees from Bhagalpur, Madhubani print textiles, Banarasi sarees from Nawada and Kaimur, applique work bedsheets from Patna, and Dupion silk sarees from Banka.
Industry Secretary Bandana Preyasi highlighted the expo’s role in boosting economic opportunities for weavers. “This event provides an excellent platform for artisans to showcase their craftsmanship and connect with customers. We are committed to promoting Bihar’s handloom sector and increasing the income of weavers.”
Director of Handloom and Silk, Nikhil Dhanraj Nippanikar, emphasized that the initiative aims to expand market reach and revive interest in traditional textiles. “This expo is not just a business opportunity but a step towards taking Bihar’s weaving heritage to new heights.”
With daily timings from 11 am to 9 pm, visitors are encouraged to explore and purchase authentic handloom and handicraft products, directly supporting artisans and preserving India’s textile legacy.
