Sasaram: A sub-inspector posted at the Sasaram Government Railway Police (GRP) station in Bihar was caught red-handed by the vigilance department on June 11 while accepting a bribe. Vijay Kumar Singh, the officer in question, had allegedly demanded Rs 15,000 from a woman in exchange for securing bail for her husband.
The complainant, Basanti Kumari, a resident of Sanjhauli, approached the vigilance department after repeated harassment. A case of assault had earlier been registered against her husband Ranjit Kumar, and Singh reportedly demanded the bribe to process bail.
Acting on the complaint, the vigilance team conducted a preliminary investigation and laid a trap. Basanti visited the GRP station on Wednesday with Rs 5,000 as instructed by the inspector. The surveillance team arrested Singh on the spot immediately after the money was handed over.
According to DSP Kiran Kumari from the vigilance team, the operation followed multiple rounds of verification. After his arrest, Vijay was taken to the circuit house where the bribe money was tested using chemical-treated water, which confirmed contamination.
Following completion of procedural formalities, the officer was transferred to Patna for further legal action.
