Patna: Prof. (Dr.) G.K. Pal, Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS, Patna, on Wednesday, launched the SUGAM model, a key initiative designed to raise awareness about contraception. This initiative aligns with the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare’s program, which focuses on the theme, “Healthy timing & spacing of pregnancy for the wellbeing of mother and child.”

The SUGAM model aims to educate the public about various contraceptive options and promotes the National Family Planning Helpline (Toll-free number: 1800-11-6555).

During the launch event, Prof. Pal congratulated the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology for spearheading this initiative. In his address to faculty, staff, and patients, he emphasized the importance of contraception awareness and practices, particularly as India has become the world’s most populous country. “It is crucial that we empower individuals and families with the right knowledge to ensure the health and well-being of both mothers and children,” Prof. Pal stated.

The event also included a public awareness program focused on the necessity of contraception and the methods available. Dr. Mukta Agarwal, Head of the Obstetrics & Gynecology Department, along with faculty members Dr. Sangam Jha, Dr. Indira Prasad, Dr. Anita Paswan, Dr. Sudwita Sinha, and Dr. Pammi Pravina, were present at the occasion.

This initiative is expected to play a vital role in promoting family planning and supporting the overall health of women and children across the country.
