Patna: The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected a petition seeking the cancellation of the 70th Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) Combined Competitive Main Examination, allowing the test to proceed as scheduled from April 25 to 30.
The plea, filed by candidates, alleged that the question paper for the preliminary exam had been leaked, casting doubt over the integrity of the entire examination process. However, a bench comprising Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice Manmohan dismissed the concerns, stating that the allegations were linked to a single examination centre — the Bapu Examination Complex — where the test was subsequently re-conducted.
Senior advocates Anjana Prakash and Colin Gonsalves, representing the petitioners, presented WhatsApp messages and video footage purportedly showing that the paper had been circulated before the exam, with claims of answers being announced over loudspeakers. Despite these submissions, the court found no conclusive evidence that the leak occurred before the examination began.
Justice Manmohan noted that even based on the petitioners’ claims, the alleged leak occurred after candidates had already entered the examination hall. “This does not establish grounds to cancel the entire process,” he stated.
Prakash argued that the integrity of the preliminary exam remained in question and called for a full re-evaluation. The court, however, remained unconvinced, ultimately upholding the Commission’s decision to proceed with the main examination.
