Patna: The Supreme Court of India has introduced key amendments to streamline its functioning and reduce procedural delays. Effective from July 14, 2025, the court’s registry will remain open on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month—days it was previously closed.
The changes were enacted under the powers granted by Article 145 of the Constitution and other relevant provisions. Specifically, the amendments affect Rules 1, 2, and 3 of Order II of the Supreme Court Rules, 2013. The decision nullifies the provision in the Supreme Court Calendar 2025 that mandated the closure of the registry on these Saturdays.
Legal professionals have welcomed the move. Rajesh Kumar Singh, President of the Bar Association in Tarapur, said the change would make the judicial system more responsive and facilitate quicker delivery of justice. Former association president Hare Krishna Verma called it a “meaningful step” toward broader judicial reforms.
Lawyers expressed hope that similar measures will be implemented in other courts across the country, making the judiciary more accessible and efficient for litigants and advocates alike.
