Surprise Raid Conducted in Patna Jails; Unauthorized Mobile Found in Barh Jail

Patna: Under the directives of Patna District Magistrate Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh and Senior Superintendent of Police Rajiv Mishra, surprise raids were conducted across all six jails in Patna early this morning. During the inspections, an unauthorized mobile phone was discovered in Barh Jail, while no objectionable items were found in the other facilities. The raid was led by regional Superintendents of Police and Sub-Divisional Officers, targeting Adarsh Central Jail, Beur; Shivir Mandal Jail, Phulwari Sharif; and the sub-jails in Barh, Masaurhi, Danapur, and Patna City sub-divisions. Both the District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police personally inspected Adarsh Central Jail in Beur, where they also reviewed the security arrangements. Describing the operation as a routine inspection, District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh stated that the raid lasted approximately two hours and found that overall arrangements were satisfactory in all jails. However, following the discovery of an unauthorized mobile phone in Barh Jail, the Jail Superintendent has been asked to provide an explanation, and legal action will follow upon receipt of his response. The District Magistrate emphasized that surprise inspections are regularly conducted to ensure that no illegal activities occur within the jail premises, aiming to thwart any criminal conspiracies or unlawful actions. "Surprise raids and checks will continue in the future to maintain order," he stated. Additional guidelines have been issued to jail superintendents to prevent any form of conspiracy or illegal activity within the jails. The District Magistrate has instructed that all jail operations must strictly adhere to the jail manual, reinforcing security and accountability within Patna’s prison facilities.
