Tamil Nadu Delegation Visits Bihar to Learn Disaster Management Best Practices
Patna: A high-level delegation led by S.K. Prabhakar, Additional Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu, visited the Bihar State Disaster Management Authority (BSDMA) on Friday. The visit aimed to understand the initiatives undertaken by BSDMA and foster mutual collaboration.
“Tamil Nadu will implement the best disaster management policies of BSDMA,” Prabhakar stated.
During their visit, the delegation was introduced to several innovative programs developed by BSDMA. These included the Nitish Pendant, Chief Minister School Safety Program, Safe Swimming Program, Community Volunteer Training Program, Mason Training Program for Earthquake Resistant House Construction, and Disaster Safety for Differently Abled individuals. The Tamil Nadu officials were particularly impressed by the public awareness initiatives utilizing AR/VR technology, such as the Akira Miyanvaki Technology, Hospital Fire Safety Programme, and the Global Warming and Environment Protection Programme.
Prabhakar emphasized the shared vulnerability to disasters faced by both Bihar and Tamil Nadu. “Visiting Bihar was a priority for me, and I am pleased with the impressive disaster management work being conducted here. The knowledge gained from these programs will be crucial in addressing floods and other disasters in Tamil Nadu,” he said.
The delegation was welcomed by BSDMA member Kaushal Kishore Mishra. Other notable attendees included BSDMA’s Vice Chairman Dr. Uday Kant, members PN Rai and Kaushal Kishore Mishra, Dr. N Saravana Kumar, Secretary of the Food and Consumer Protection Department, and C.N. Prabhu, Director of Bihar Mausam Seva Kendra.
Dr. N Saravana Kumar provided insights into Bihar’s disaster management policies and the state’s commitment to pre-preparedness. PN Rai discussed the authority’s policies and financial management, highlighting that the Chief Minister of Bihar personally reviews the authority’s work twice a year. He elaborated on various programs and policies related to technology interventions and community-based awareness.
Vice Chairman Dr. Uday Kant spoke about collaborative efforts with the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, on flood management. He stressed the importance of increasing mutual cooperation and understanding between the states for effective disaster management and mitigation.
The session was moderated by senior advisor Dr. B.K. Sahay, and a vote of thanks was delivered by Sapna Kumari.
