Tax Assistant Attacked with Sword in Patna Income Tax Office
Patna: A tax assistant, Pramod Kumar, was attacked with a sword at the Income Tax Bhawan in Patna on Tuesday. The attacker, Suman Thakur, who works as a driver for the Income Tax Office Superintendent, allegedly assaulted Kumar, injuring his neck and hand and severing a finger. The injured victim was admitted to a private hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Following the incident, Kotwali police arrived at the scene, arrested Thakur, and recovered the weapon used in the attack. According to sources, the assault occurred during the inauguration ceremony of a “Gyan Room” at the Income Tax Office, which senior officials were attending. During this time, Thakur arrived at the event, wielding a sword and chanting “Jai Mahakal” as he attacked.
Kumar recounted that around 2 p.m., Thakur approached him with a sword in one hand and a towel inscribed with “Mahakal” in the other. Before Kumar could react, Thakur struck at his neck, chanting “Jai Mahakal.” Kumar narrowly avoided a fatal injury but suffered additional wounds, including a severed finger and a deep cut to his hand.
The authorities are investigating the incident further to understand the motives behind the attack and ensure safety protocols at the office.
