Tejashwi Tightens Grip on RJD, Sets Rules for Discipline at Patna Meet
Patna: Tejashwi Yadav, Leader of Opposition and the key face of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), emphasized strict discipline within the party during the National Executive meeting held at Hotel Maurya on Saturday. Tejashwi warned party workers against hooliganism and irresponsible statements, stating that those who indulge in such activities will not be given posts. He assured that workers who do not get tickets will be adjusted once the government is formed.
During the meeting, Tejashwi directed RJD leaders to launch a large-scale membership campaign and ensure the formation of committees at every booth. He emphasized making at least two active members at each booth to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence.
A proposal to make Tejashwi the Chief Minister was also raised during the meeting, with Lalu Prasad, the party’s national president, openly endorsing Tejashwi as the next CM. Lalu stated, “I will personally campaign in the assembly elections and ensure Tejashwi becomes the Chief Minister.”
Significant amendments to RJD’s constitution were made in the meeting, giving Tejashwi equal powers alongside Lalu Prasad. According to RJD spokesperson Bhai Birendra, changes in Section 35A of the party’s constitution now allow Tejashwi to make crucial decisions, including issuing symbols and finalizing election candidates.
Additionally, provisions were introduced to safeguard the party’s name, symbol, and flag in case of a split, overriding Election Commission decisions.
The party outlined its organizational roadmap, with new state presidents to be elected on June 21, followed by an open session on July 5 to elect the national president. RJD’s national general secretary Abdul Bari Siddiqui presented a report emphasizing the need to strengthen the party in all states to regain national recognition. Chittaranjan Gagan reiterated Tejashwi’s candidature as CM, while former MLA Bhola Yadav detailed the party’s organizational election plans for 2025-2028.
