Three Farmers Suffer Electric Shock While Ploughing Field in Patna; One in Critical Condition

Patna: Three farmers sustained severe burns after coming into contact with a live electric wire while working in a field in Patna’s Paliganj area on Monday. One of the victims, 20-year-old Nitish Kumar, has been referred to AIIMS Patna in critical condition, while the other two are receiving treatment at a local hospital.

The incident occurred in Jarkha village, under the jurisdiction of Sigori police station. According to reports, Arjun Yadav and his son Nitish were ploughing a waterlogged field with a tractor when Arjun stepped onto the ground and came into contact with a live wire that had fallen earlier. Nitish, attempting to help, was also electrocuted. A third person, Dharmendra Kumar, 20 — Arjun’s other son — rushed to the scene after hearing their screams and was similarly injured.

Nearby farmers acted swiftly, managing to pull the three away from the wire and rush them to the Paliganj sub-divisional hospital. “All three had suffered electric burns. Nitish Kumar’s condition was critical and he has been referred to AIIMS Patna for advanced treatment. The other two are stable and are being treated here,” said Dr Rajesh Kumar, who is overseeing their care.

Sigori police have launched an investigation into the incident. “We received information that three individuals were injured due to contact with a live wire in Jarkha village. One of them is in serious condition and has been shifted to AIIMS. Further inquiry is underway,” said station in-charge Pramod Kumar Shah.
