Patna: A violent altercation broke out between passengers on the Danapur-Rajgir passenger train on Saturday morning over seat sharing, leading to a stone-pelting incident that left three people injured.
The clash began shortly after the train departed from Hilsa station. According to eyewitnesses, the dispute erupted when some passengers attempted to forcibly occupy seats already taken by others. Verbal arguments quickly escalated into a physical fight. As tensions flared, unidentified individuals began pelting stones at the train, causing panic among passengers.
Three passengers sustained injuries in the stone pelting. Local police arrived at the scene after being informed and took the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable.
Railway officials expressed concern over the incident and assured a thorough investigation.
“Incidents like this are unfortunate and unacceptable. We are coordinating with local police and will take strict action against those involved,” said R.K. Sinha, a senior official from the East Central Railway.
Frequent overcrowding and lack of proper seating arrangements on passenger trains often result in such disputes, especially on heavily travelled routes in Bihar. The incident has once again raised questions about passenger safety and the need for stricter onboard security measures.
Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and collecting witness statements to identify those responsible.
