Three Minors Detained in Connection with BJP Leader Munna Sharma’s Murder in Patna
Patna: Patna Police have detained three minors in connection with the murder of BJP leader Shyam Sundar Sharma, also known as Munna Sharma. The police have recovered Sharma’s stolen mobile phone based on information provided by the accused. However, the prime suspect in the case, Sunny, remains at large, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend him.
Dr. Gaurav Kumar, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO)-2, stated that the three minors were conducting surveillance on a bike during the time of the murder. The BJP leader’s phone was discovered hidden under debris near Sheetla Mata Temple. Police teams, formed under the direction of East City SP Shubhank Mishra, are conducting raids to track down other suspects involved in the case.
The police had earlier arrested Karan Kumar, one of the shooters involved in the murder. Kumar was apprehended in the 48th case related to the incident, and officers recovered a country-made pistol, live cartridges, and the bike used in the crime from him.
During police interrogation, Karan Kumar revealed that he was involved in the illegal liquor trade alongside Sunny. Munna Sharma had consistently opposed their smuggling operations, leading to frequent conflicts. A heated argument had occurred between Sharma and Sunny a few days before the murder. Angered by the opposition, Sunny arranged for weapons on September 6 and stole a bike from the Jakkanpur area on September 7. Three people, including the minors, used the stolen bike to carry out the killing.
Shyam Sundar Sharma was shot dead on the morning of September 9, 2024, near Mangal Talab in Patna City. Just the night before, his younger son Rahul’s wedding had taken place, and several relatives were visiting the family. After dropping some relatives off in an auto-rickshaw, Sharma was on his way home when three assailants surrounded him and opened fire.
Local residents who were out for their morning walk discovered Sharma bleeding from gunshot wounds and immediately informed the police. He was rushed to Nalanda Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.
Shyam Sundar Sharma was the BJP Nagar Mandal President of Patna City Chowk.
