Patna : In a major infrastructure boost under the Prime Minister’s Gati Shakti National Master Plan, three new cargo terminals are set to be established in Bihar, aiming to transform foodgrain logistics and create employment opportunities in the region.
A formal agreement has been signed between Khagaria Private Limited and Indian Railways for the construction of a Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal (GCT) near Pasraha station in the Sonpur rail division. This will be the third GCT in the division, according to senior railway officials.
The new terminal is expected to streamline the monthly export of 25 to 30 rakes of foodgrains for the Food Corporation of India (FCI), thereby strengthening the supply chain and supporting national food security. The facility will have a storage capacity of 12,500 metric tonnes.
In addition to the Pasraha project, preparations are underway to set up similar terminals at Silaut, ChakSikandar, and Turki railway stations, further expanding the state’s logistics infrastructure.
Representatives from LEAP India, the private partner in the Pasraha project, were present during the announcement, including Deputy General Manager P. Srinivasan and Deputy Manager Eklakh Ul Rehman, along with senior DCM of Sonpur Railway.
Officials stated that the new terminal will not only offer modern freight handling capabilities but also stimulate economic activity in rural Bihar. Approximately 1,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities are expected to be generated once operations commence.
