Patna : Youth Congress workers staged a dramatic protest in Patna on Friday, halting a train at the Secretariat Halt station to oppose the recent chargesheet filed against Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi in the National Herald case. The demonstration disrupted rail traffic and prompted a swift police response.
The National Herald case has long been a flashpoint between the Congress party and the ruling government. The latest chargesheet, filed earlier this week, triggered widespread outrage among Congress supporters. Youth Congress leaders accused the government of using investigative agencies as political tools and condemned the action as “revenge politics”.
Protesters gathered at the Secretariat Halt station, where several demonstrators lay on the tracks, forcing an incoming train to stop. What began as a peaceful protest quickly escalated, causing delays and confusion among passengers. Railway officials and local police rushed to the scene to manage the situation.
Security personnel eventually cleared the tracks after repeated appeals and physical intervention. No injuries were reported, though the disruption lasted nearly an hour.
Speaking to reporters, Youth Congress members vowed to escalate their protests if the charges are not withdrawn. “This is a direct attack on democracy,” one leader said. “We will not remain silent.”
The Patna district administration condemned the disruption, stating that while peaceful protest is a democratic right, public inconvenience and illegal actions would not be tolerated. Officials confirmed that an inquiry is underway.
