Patna: A man died in a tragic accident in Patna on Wednesday morning after his tractor broke through the railing of a bridge and plunged nearly 100 feet into a pit below.
The incident occurred near Gaurichak market, under the jurisdiction of Gaurichak police station. The victim, identified as Ashok Paswan, 52, a resident of Kotiya village in the Didarganj police station area, was driving towards the Punpun river when he lost control of the vehicle.
According to officials, the tractor veered off course while crossing the bridge and crashed through the barrier, falling into a deep mud pit. Locals rushed to the site upon hearing the impact and found the driver unresponsive. Police from Gaurichak station arrived soon after, but the driver had already died.
“We have taken the body into custody and sent it for post-mortem at Nalanda Medical College Hospital,” said station in-charge Arun Kumar, adding that the cause of the accident is under investigation.
The bridge, which connects rural parts of Patna district, sees heavy use from agricultural vehicles. Locals have raised concerns about the safety infrastructure on the bridge, particularly the strength of its railings.
