Patna: Six individuals lost their lives early Tuesday morning in a devastating road accident on the Patna-Bakhtiyarpur four-lane highway. The incident occurred near an overpass when a speeding SUV collided with a stationary highway vehicle.
The impact of the collision was severe, shattering the SUV and resulting in the immediate death of four passengers. Two others succumbed to their injuries while undergoing medical treatment. Reports indicate that the SUV was traveling at a speed of 100 km/h at the time of the accident.
According to initial investigations, the SUV, carrying eleven passengers from Nawada district’s Hisua area, was en route to Umanath Ghat in Barh for a Ganges bath pilgrimage. Tragically, it collided with the parked highway vehicle, leading to this fatal outcome.
Local witnesses attributed the accident to the driver possibly falling asleep at the wheel, exacerbating the severity of the collision. Authorities from the Bakhtiyarpur police station promptly responded to the scene upon receiving the distress call, initiating an investigation into the incident.
Confirming the details, DSP- 2 Abhishek Singh of the Barh subdivision reported that four fatalities occurred immediately, with two others dying later in hospital care. The remaining passengers are receiving treatment at a private nursing home in Patna, while efforts are underway to identify all individuals involved.
Ramchandra Yadav, speaking on behalf of the deceased’s family, recounted that the tragedy unfolded around 3:00 AM. He mentioned that a group of twenty individuals, split between two vehicles, were traveling to Barh when the accident transpired.
