Training on Millet Production and Value Addition Concludes at Bihar Agricultural University

Bhagalpur: A three-day training program on millet production, processing, and value addition successfully concluded at Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour. The event, held from March 24 to March 26, saw the participation of 62 farmers who received guidance from experts on modern techniques to enhance millet cultivation and turn it into a profitable enterprise.

During the program, experts provided detailed insights into cultivating various millets such as bajra, jowar, ragi, kangni, sawa, kutki, and kodo. Farmers were introduced to advanced agricultural practices, business opportunities, and practical demonstrations on processing and value addition. They learned how to make flour, biscuits, noodles, and other nutritious products from millets, enabling them to market their produce more effectively and increase their earnings.

In the closing session, Director Research Anil Kumar Singh distributed certificates to the farmers and highlighted the university’s commitment to equipping them with modern agricultural techniques. He emphasized that millet crops are climate-friendly, require less water and fertilizers, and can help increase farm income. He also assured farmers that future training programs would be conducted, and efforts would be made to provide them with bank loans at low interest rates to support entrepreneurial ventures.

Principal of Agriculture College Sabour, Mukesh Kumar Sinha, encouraged farmers to include millets in their daily diets and explore value-added millet products for better economic opportunities. Mahesh Kumar Singh, Principal Investigator, spoke on the advantages of integrating millet into modern agriculture and projected that high-yielding millet varieties could replace traditional crops like paddy for better profitability.

Farmers expressed their appreciation for the training, stating that the knowledge gained would help them adopt improved farming techniques and explore millet-based startups. The program not only provided technical education but also opened new market opportunities, guiding farmers toward sustainable agriculture, nutritional security, and economic self-reliance. Scientists including Birendra Singh, Anand Kumar, Amarendra Kumar, and Rima Kumari were also present at the event.
