Katihar/Patna: A major railway accident occurred on Friday near Mahrani village in Bihar’s Katihar district, after the Avadh Assam Express collided with a railway trolley between Kadhagola and Semapur stations on the Katihar–Barauni section. One railway employee was killed and three others were seriously injured in the incident.
According to Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM) Manoj Kumar Singh, the incident happened when several railway workers were conducting track maintenance while riding on a trolley. The Avadh Assam Express (train number 15610), travelling from Barauni to Katihar, struck the trolley, leading to the fatality and injuries.
The deceased trolleyman has been identified as Pramod Yadav, a Group D employee who had joined Indian Railways in 2011. He hailed from the Rangra police station area in Navagachia. The impact of the collision shattered the trolley, and the injured were rushed to a nearby health centre for treatment.
Railway officials swiftly dispatched a relief and medical team from Katihar. Train movement on the affected route was briefly halted but later restored after the wreckage was cleared.
“The crash occurred during routine track maintenance. A high-level inquiry has been ordered to determine the cause of the accident, and all staff have been instructed to exercise utmost caution during such operations,” said ADRM Singh.
