Patna: Police in Patna have arrested two men accused of running a cyber fraud targeting South Indian victims through the SBI Yono app. The suspects, identified as Amit Kumar, aged 25, and Rahul Kumar, aged 22, were arrested from the Rajendra Nagar area.
According to investigators, the duo had been operating the scam with other partners for the past two to three years, cheating at least 15 people of crores of rupees. The group allegedly rented rooms in Patna under the guise of studying, while using Facebook and Instagram advertisements to promote fake cheap loans linked to SBI. They also pasted posters around the city to lure victims.
Police said that once contact was established, the fraudsters posed as SBI bank managers and convinced their targets to share OTPs, enabling them to transfer money from victims’ accounts. The operation came to light after a South Indian victim filed a complaint, prompting an investigation that exposed the network.
The accused are currently being interrogated as police continue their efforts to track other members of the gang involved in the multi-crore fraud.
