Two Bihar Officials Arrested for Accepting Bribes in Siwan and Vaishali

Vigilance teams arrested a revenue worker in Siwan for taking Rs 35,000 and a Block Development Officer in Vaishali for accepting Rs 20,000, as part of an ongoing anti-corruption drive in Bihar.

Patna: In a fresh crackdown on public corruption, the Bihar Vigilance Department on June 9 arrested two government officials red handed while accepting bribes in separate incidents in Siwan and Vaishali districts.

In the first case, revenue worker Girish Tiwari was caught in Siwan accepting a bribe of Rs 35,000. The arrest followed a complaint alleging illegal monetary demands. Vigilance officials set up a trap and apprehended the accused during the transaction.

On the same day, in a separate action, Block Development Officer Neelam Kumari was arrested in Lalganj, Vaishali, while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000. Sources within the vigilance unit stated that the action was part of an ongoing investigation into administrative malpractice.
The arrests reflect mounting pressure on local administrations in Bihar to address widespread corruption, particularly at the grassroots level where citizens often face routine extortion for basic services.

Vigilance authorities have stated that both officials will face departmental inquiry and legal action under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
