Two Killed, Six Injured As Speeding Bus Ploughs Into Crowd In Bihar's Saran

Chhapra/Patna: Two people were killed and six others injured in Bihar’s Saran district on Tuesday when a speeding bus veered off the road and rammed into a group of people sitting under a tree, in what appears to be another tragic case of reckless driving.

The incident occurred near Marhaura when the bus, reportedly attempting to avoid a cyclist, lost control and swerved into the roadside area where locals had gathered for shade. According to eyewitnesses, the bus was travelling from Chhapra when it suddenly left the road and ran over the victims.

Among the deceased were 40-year-old Geeta Devi, a resident of Karnapura village, and Kanhaiya Mahato. Both were rushed to the Sadar Hospital in Chhapra but were declared dead on arrival. The family of Geeta Devi was seen inconsolable at the hospital.

The injured were initially taken to a local government hospital by villagers and then referred to Sadar Hospital for further treatment. Those hurt include 40-year-old Rana Kumar, 15-year-old Pawan Sharma, 38-year-old Jitendra Yadav, and 25-year-old Sikandar Rai. Doctors have confirmed that all the injured are out of danger.

Following the accident, the driver and cleaner of the bus fled the scene. Their absence sparked outrage among residents, who blocked the road in protest. Police and administrative officials have been deployed to the site and are attempting to calm the crowd and restore order.

“The injured have been sent to Chapra Sadar Hospital. Two people have died in this incident. Local people blocked the road in protest. Efforts are being made to pacify them. Raids are being conducted to arrest the driver and cleaner,” said Marhaura police station in-charge Mukesh Kumar.

The police have sent the bodies for post-mortem and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
