UNDP Representative Visits Bihar Pollution Control Board to Discuss Patna’s Air Pollution
Patna: Isabelle Tschan, Resident Representative of UNDP-India, visited the Bihar State Pollution Control Board (BSPCB) headquarters on Thursday. During her meeting with Dr. D.K. Shukla, Chairman of BSPCB, the UNDP team discussed the pressing issue of air pollution in Patna.
UNDP-India is collaborating with Development Alternatives (DA) and the BSPCB on a project titled “Hyperlocal Mapping of Air Pollution and Greenhouse Gas Emission in Patna.” As part of this initiative, 50 low-cost IoT (Internet of Things) -based sensors are being deployed across the city to monitor air quality.
Dr. Shukla highlighted the necessity for scientific analysis of the data collected by these sensors. He stressed that timely analysis is crucial for implementing immediate measures to mitigate hyperlocal sources of pollution.
The meeting was also attended by Shubham Tandon of UNDP-India, S. Chandrasekar, Member Secretary of BSPCB, Avinash Kumar of DA, and Dr. Naveen Kumar, Senior Scientist at BSPCB.
This collaborative effort aims to provide a detailed and actionable understanding of air pollution in Patna, enabling targeted interventions to improve the city’s air quality.
