Ustad Bismillah Khan Memorial: An Evening of Classical Excellence in Patna

Patna: The Sri Krishna Memorial Hall buzzed with the rich tones of classical music today as Patna paid tribute to Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan with a grand music festival. The event was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Kumar Sinha, who lit the ceremonial lamp, marking the beginning of a memorable celebration of Indian classical music. The occasion also saw floral tributes to the legendary musician, accompanied by a distinguished gathering including Patna MP Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad and Additional Chief Secretary of the Art, Culture and Youth Department, Smt. Harjot Kaur.
The festival featured a mesmerizing jugalbandi, or duet performance, of Shehnai and Violin, highlighted by the virtuosity of Pandit Rajendra Prasanna and Pandit Santosh Nahar, with Shri Raj Kumar Nahar on the tabla. The performance began with an Alaap Jod in Raag Madhuvanti, followed by intricate compositions in Madhya Laya Teen Taal and Drut Teen Taal, concluding with Bismillah Khan’s cherished Kajri.
Adding to the festival’s allure, Vidushi Kaushiki Chakraborty delivered a captivating rendition of Raag Vihag, beginning with “Gori Tero Raj” and transitioning into “Ab To Rat Laagi.” Her performance of “Saiyaan Bolo Mose Tanik Rahiyo Na Jaye” and “Tumko Aane Me, Tumko Bulane Me” received a rapturous response from the audience.
The event, a testament to Ustad Bismillah Khan’s enduring legacy, was attended by around 1200 guests, including notable figures such as RERA Chairman Vivek Kumar Singh and Director General Vigilance Alok Raj. As the festival concluded, all participating artists were honored with symbols and shawls, celebrating a day of cultural richness and musical excellence
