Saharsa / Patna : In a significant infrastructure boost ahead of the general elections, Bihar is set to receive two of the Indian Railways’ flagship trains—Vande Bharat Express and Amrit Bharat Express—both originating from Saharsa and heading to New Delhi via different routes.
According to railway sources, preparations are underway to introduce a Vande Bharat Express from Saharsa to New Delhi via Muzaffarpur. Meanwhile, a second Amrit Bharat Express from Bihar is scheduled to be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Madhubani on April 24. This train will take a different route, running via Darbhanga and Sitamarhi.
The Samastipur Railway Division has begun infrastructure upgrades at Saharsa station to accommodate the Vande Bharat service. The senior divisional electrical engineering department has accelerated work on modifying the overhead electrification (OHE) to support the high-speed train.
Once operational, the Vande Bharat Express is expected to cover the Saharsa–New Delhi journey in approximately 13 hours, passing through Barauni, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Hajipur, Pataliputra, Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction, and Lucknow.
The Amrit Bharat Express, which recently completed trial runs, will follow a separate route via Darbhanga and Sitamarhi. The train’s rake has already arrived in Bihar, and its maintenance, along with that of the Vande Bharat Express, will be handled at Saharsa.
