
New Delhi: Vande Bharat Express trains and the Chenab Bridge have emerged as major attractions at the ongoing World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, drawing enthusiastic crowds and praise for India’s journey of technological innovation and modernisation.
Held at Yumeshima, an artificial island on Osaka’s waterfront, the World Expo 2025 opened its doors on April 13 and will continue until October 13, welcoming millions of visitors from across the globe. Among the diverse international exhibits, the Indian Pavilion – particularly the section dedicated to Indian Railways – has become a focal point of admiration.
The display highlights the Chenab Bridge, the world’s highest railway bridge spanning the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir; the Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge built in the challenging Himalayan terrain; and the state-of-the-art Vande Bharat Express trains known for their speed and passenger comfort. The showcase also features advancements in electric locomotives, underscoring India’s commitment to sustainable mobility.
Japanese visitors gathered around the Indian Railways exhibit, listening to presentations about the genesis and transformation of one of the world’s largest rail networks. Many expressed awe at the scale of engineering and the integration of modern infrastructure with environmental consciousness.
The theme for Expo 2025, “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” with sub-themes of Saving Lives, Empowering Lives and Connecting Lives, aligns with Indian Railways’ vision of delivering safe, inclusive and sustainable transportation. Through interactive sessions and immersive digital displays, Indian Railways is engaging global audiences, reinforcing its image as a modern, innovative and eco-conscious mobility leader.
