Vaishali: A thief was beaten to death by an angry mob in Vaishali district of Bihar late on Friday night. The incident took place in Chandpura Salkhani village under Mahua police station. Police said three thieves came to the village and snatched a mangalsutra and chain from the neck of a woman who was sleeping on a cot outside her house.

As soon as the woman woke up and started shouting, the thieves tried to escape. Villagers gathered quickly and chased them. They managed to catch one of the thieves, while the other two ran away on a bike. The caught thief was beaten so badly by the villagers that he died on the spot before police could reach.

Police identified the dead thief as a resident of Milki Chaksya, a nearby village. His body was taken for postmortem, and an investigation has started. Villagers said they were fed up with rising thefts in the area and acted out of anger when they caught him.

This incident has raised fresh questions about law and order in Bihar, coming just a day after the murder of businessman Gopal Khemka in Patna. Police have urged people not to take law into their own hands and assured strict action against those found guilty of violence.
