Kishanganj/ Patna: A herd of wild elephants from Nepal has caused widespread damage to crops in several villages of Kishanganj district. The elephants, estimated to be five or six in number, have trampled fields across the Dighalbank block, affecting villages such as Giritola, Tej Narayan Tola, Jadutola, Dhantola, and Mulabari.

Farmers in the region have reported significant losses, with maize and banana crops being destroyed. The financial damage is estimated to be in the lakhs.

“The elephants entered our fields and have caused extensive destruction,” said one of the farmers. “Every year, elephants from Nepal come and wreak havoc on our crops. In the past, lives have also been lost due to these incidents, yet the administration has not taken effective steps to address the problem.”

Despite repeated occurrences, local farmers claim that no concrete measures have been implemented to prevent such invasions or compensate for the losses. The affected communities are now urging authorities to take immediate action to mitigate the threat posed by these wild elephants.
