Woman Allegedly Murdered and Body Burnt in Motihari for Opposing Husband’s Affair

A woman in Motihari was allegedly killed and her body burnt by her husband and in-laws after she objected to his illicit relationship, according to an FIR filed by her father.

Motihari: A man from Motihari, Bihar, is facing serious allegations of murdering his wife and burning her body after she opposed his illicit relationship. The incident, reported in the Dhaka police station area, has triggered local outrage and an ongoing police investigation.

According to the complaint lodged by Horil Rai, a resident of Shivhar, his daughter Reena Devi was married to Harischandra Rai of Narkatiya village. Horil claims his daughter was regularly subjected to physical abuse and had returned to her parental home with her children in distress.

On June 7, Harischandra, accompanied by his family members, arrived at Horil’s home and persuaded Reena to return with him, citing a religious ritual for the children. Days later, on June 12, Reena was allegedly murdered, and her body was secretly burnt the following evening.

“When I reached their home on June 14 after receiving information, the house was deserted except for a few women and children. All the men had fled,” Horil said in his statement. He alleged that Harischandra was in a relationship with another woman and murdered Reena when she resisted.

Dhaka police station in-charge Rajrup Rai confirmed that an FIR has been registered against Harischandra and his family members under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, and investigations are underway.
